Alchemy at the Silberman School of Social Work

Alchemy at the Silberman School of Social Work

Wednesdays, 12/10, 1/14 and 2/11

10:00AM - 12:00 PM

The Continuing Education Department, the Cabrini-Hunter Fellowships Program and the Learning & Development Projects at the Silberman School of Social Work are excited to bring Alchemy by Kwame Scruggs to the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College.

Myths and fairy tales are more than timeless stories—they are living maps of the collective unconscious, revealing the deep architecture of the human soul. These age-old narratives carry the scaffolding of psychological growth: patterns that once guided entire cultures. Today, much of that scaffolding has been lost, leaving many of us wandering as our spirit longs for a positive and supportive environment, clarity, and purpose.

The Alchemy Method is a transformative approach that recognizes the power of storytelling in shaping our lives. Utilizing depth psychology, an exploration of the unconscious and deeper aspects of the human mind, we will dive into mythic tales, bringing to the fore not just what you feel—but how you think about what you feel. Through emotional thinking, you will connect with your inner responses—your longings, fears, and hopes. Through critical thinking, you will examine assumptions, patterns, and beliefs. You will hear myths, pause at turning points, tune in to what resonates, and ask probing questions: What resonated with you? What beliefs are beneath your reaction? You will work through a myth while the myth simultaneously works through you.
